Data center cooling works on the principle of heat exchange, removing excess heat from the air and replacing it with cooler air. Servers and networking equipment generate substantial heat, necessitating effective cooling systems. These systems monitor and measure heat loads to identify areas requiring cooling.
Typically, hot air is exhausted outside, while air conditioners cool incoming air for indoor circulation. Data centers often use localization strategies for efficiency: hot aisle containment isolates hot air from servers, and cold aisle containment directs cool air where needed.
In some climates, a method called free cooling is used, where hot air is exhausted, and pre-cooled outside air is brought in, suitable for colder climates.
Air-cooled systems, featuring computer room air conditioners (CRAC) or units (CRU), control room temperature by filtering and cooling the air before recirculating it. Temperature and humidity sensors ensure optimal airflow and temperature to meet equipment needs.
There are two main types of cooling: liquid and air. Blauberg Motoren specializes in air cooling components, such as axial and centrifugal fans.
